HONORARY AWARDS FROM THE QUEEN FOR PAKISTANI BRITISH COUNCIL STAFF

Islamabad;21 June 2017-On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, the British High Commissioner, Mr Thomas Drew CMG, has presented honorary British awards to Nishat Riaz and Shazia Khawar in recognition of their services for the British Council in Pakistan.

Both Nishat and Shazia have been appointed Honorary Members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). This honour is awarded to individuals for significant achievements or exceptional service to the UK, which stands out as an example to others.

BRITISH COUNCIL LAUNCHES ‘CREATIVE CITIES IN PAKISTAN’ EXHIBITION IN LONDON

The British Council launched an exhibition called ‘Creative Cities in Pakistan’, which focuses on five cities with thriving creative communities that are rich in arts and crafts, as well as history and culture. Taking place at the British Council Spring Garden office, the exhibition will run between 4 April to 26 May 2017.

New Food Fortification Programme to help tackle malnutrition in Pakistan

Islamabad-08 Sep 2016-A new Food Fortification Programme in Pakistan aims to reduce by a third iron deficiency anaemia, and by a quarter vitamin A deficiency in women and children by increasing the micronutrient content of flour and edible oil or ghee through fortification. The programme was launched today in Islamabad by Joanna Reid, the head of DFID Pakistan. The event was also attended by State Minister Health Saira Afzal Tarar.

The British High Commissioner-Designate to Pakistan, Thomas Drew CMG, spoke to Pakistani media in the UK before leaving for Islamabad at the end of this week. 

 

In his speech, which was partially delivered in Urdu, he said:

Islamabad (Diplomatic Reporter)The British High Commissioner to Pakistan His Excellency Mr Philip Barton, CMG, OBE has left Islamabad at the end of his assignment on the 11 February.  His replacement, Mr Thomas Drew CMG, will start work as British High Commissioner-Designate in Pakistan on 22 February.

On his departure, High Commissioner Philip Barton said:

Islamabad, January 27, 2016: Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, has announced to offer 180 scholarships in the next five years to Pakistani students wishing to enrol in PhD research programmes.

UK HIGH COMMISSION WINS FRIENDLY CRICKET MATCH WITH FOREIGN MINISTRY TEAM

Islamabad - The British High Commission cricket team invited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan to a friendly cricket match in Islamabad today. The UK team featured a number of British diplomats including British High Commissioner Philip Barton CMG OBE.

NEW UK HEAD OF CONSULAR SERVICES COMMITS TO SUPPORTING BRITISH NATIONALS IN PAKISTAN

Islamabad - The British High Commissioner Mr. Philip Barton CMG OBE, introduced Mr Jon Ryan as the New Head of Consular Services in Pakistan and Afghanistan at a reception he hosted at his Residence in Islamabad.

The event was attended by partners of the British High Commission’s Consular Section, including representatives of Pakistani law enforcement authorities, members of the press, travel agents, and members of the UK’s network of consular wardens.
