EU High Representative Catherine Ashton Expresses Regret on the Execution of Afzal Guru in India

Brussles, 13th February 2013}- The International Council for Human Rights - Kashmir Project (ICHR-KP) wishes to express its satisfaction with the statement issued by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine Ashton, regarding the execution of Afzal Guru in India stating:

Pakistan is undergoing a revolution at evolutionary pace; Sajjad Karim MEP

BRUSSELS; 24 JAN 2013-Ahead of the forthcoming general elections in Pakistan this year, Sajjad Karim MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament Friends of Pakistan Group, was invited to attend a high level roundtable in Brussels discussing the hopes and challenges of democracy in Pakistan . The Pakistani ambassador to the EU was also a speaker at the roundtable.

This is the breach of the de-facto moratorium on the death penalty observed by India since 2004-Statement by High Representative Catherine Ashton on Ajmal Kasab's execution

ISLAMABAD- Nov 23-Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, has issued the following statement:

"I am very concerned by the execution which took place early yesterday morning in Pune, Maharashtra. Irrespective of the merits of the case, I deeply regret this breach of the de-facto moratorium on the death penalty observed by India since 2004, which also goes against the global abolitionist trend.

Launch of the €4.75 million European Union funded "Improving Parliamentary Performance" (IP 3) programme

Islamabad: Nov 07- The European Union (EU) today launched its first
cooperation programme "Improving Parliamentary Performance" in support of Pakistan's
Federal Parliament. The objective of the €4.75 million programme is to assist the National
Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan in the discharge of their three core parliamentary
functions: legislation, oversight and representation.

Pakistan: Increased EU funding of €15 million for double humanitarian crisis, total reached to €70 million.

Brussels, 27 September 2012--The European Union has announced additional funding of €15 million in order to continue delivering immediate relief to the victims of two humanitarian crises in Pakistan. These funds will provide assistance to those affected by the on-going conflict in the north of the country as well as to the victims of three successive years of major flooding in the south. The additional funding brings the European Commission's 2012 humanitarian contribution for Pakistan to a total of €70 million.

ISLAMABAD, May 06, 2012(Diplomatic News Agency): Mr. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Ambassador of European Union to Pakistan has said, EU has finally decided to give trade concessions to Pakistan effective from July 2012. Pakistani products, after this arrangement, will have access to European markets, he added.

He disclosed this while giving an exclusive interview to Diplomatic News Agency (DNA) here on May 03.

EU envoy meets politicians in Quetta- Balochistan internal issue of Pakistan-Lars Gunnar Wigemark

QUETTA: Monday, February 27, 2012--Ambassador European Union to Pakistan Lars Gunnar Wigemark had a meeting with the leaders of nationalist political parties and representatives of civil society in Quetta on Sunday.During the meeting, the issues related to Balochistan’s development and the overall situation of the province came under discussion. A delegation of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Balochistan chapter led by its vice Chairman, Tahir Hussain advocate, also called on the European Union envoy.

Pakistan to earn additional Euro 100 mln annually thanks to WTO waiver

ISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): The waiver by the World Trade Organization (WTO)of duty to the Pakistani products will have positive impact on the exports as Pakistan would be able to earn extra Euro 100 million per year.According to an official of the Ministry of Textile Industry, the the net impact of WTO waiver will increase the export of valued added textile products.He said that the total export volume would be increased by 20 per cent.
