EU DELEGATION EXPECTS PERPETRATORS OF KILLING OF RASHID REHMAN WILL BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE

Islamabad-The European Union Delegation to Pakistan deplores the killing of the prominent lawyer and human rights defender Mr. Rashid Rehman in Multan on 7 May. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Rehman.

As spelled out in art. 14 (d) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), to which Pakistan is a party, everyone is entitled to a proper legal defence. Protection should be provided to lawyers defending the fundamental rights of their fellow citizens to due process under the law, including those accused of committing blasphemy.

PhD degrees to Sajjad Karim and David Martin

EU Election Observation Mission Presents Final Report and Recommendations for Future Electoral Processes

Islamabad( Staff Reporter ) A strong democratic commitment was demonstrated in the 2013 elections. Despite escalating militant attacks, and procedural shortcomings, the electoral process progressed with high levels of competition, a marked increase in voter participation, and overall acceptance of the outcome. However fundamental problems remain with the legal framework and the implementation of certain provisions, leaving future processes vulnerable to malpractice.

Islamabad ( Monitoring Desk )France and Germany are urging the United States to come clean over claims that its intelligence services have been spying on key EU offices.A report in Germany's Der Spiegel magazine said European Union offices in the US and Europe had been bugged.

Other "targets" included the French, Italian and Greek embassies in the US, according to leaked documents later mentioned by the Guardian newspaper.

Fugitive ex-CIA analyst Edward Snowden is said to be the source of the leaks.

EU supports Pakistan for internationally traceable measurement services for industry

Islamabad; 16 May 2013 { Commerce Reporter } Internationally recognized accreditation of six laboratories of the National Physical and Standard Laboratory (NPSL) will foster the metrological activities not only in the country but also in the region.

The European Union resumes imports of Pakistani seafood to its market

Islamabad: 27th Feb 2013}- The European Union today decided to resume imports of Pakistani seafood to its market, taking another step forward in EU-Pakistan relations. The decision puts an end to a six year long voluntary ban of exports of fishery products to the EU by the Maritime Fisheries Department of Pakistan.
