WFP AND GOVERNMENT INAUGURATE EMERGENCY RESPONSE FACILITY IN PESHAWAR

Peshawar - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ProvincialDisaster Management Authority (PDMA) today inaugurated the fifth Humanitarian Response Facility (HRF) in Pakistan, in Jalozai, in the presence of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak, WFP Regional Director for Asia David Kaatrud, and WFP Pakistan Representative Lola Castro. The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Denmark Jasper Moller Sorensen and Honorary Consul General of Japan NawabzadaFazal Karim Afridi.

 

Peace and Stabilisation - Danish team in town to identify new areas of cooperation

Islamabad  - The Danish Government has sent a team to Pakistan to identify new areas for further cooperation within peace and stabilisation in Pakistan and in the region. The initiative is part of the Peace and Stabilisation Fund of the Danish Government. The fund is a cross-government funding pool to support peace, stabilisation and conflict prevention initiatives.

DENMARK PROVIDES EXTRA USD 1.6 MILLION TO IDP’s

- The Government of Denmark has granted a contribution of USD 1.6 million to assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) in North Waziristan and Khyber Agency’s. The contribution, which has a special focus on women and children, will be implemented through UNHCR’s operations in the area.

Muzaffarabad -“Early marriage is a major challenge in Pakistan. 40 percent of girls are married before the age of 18. Early marriage often denies children their basic right to good health, education and freedom from violence, abuse and exploitation. Most fundamentally, it deprives a child the basic right of simply being a child.” This was stated by the Ambassador of Denmark, Mr. Jesper Moller Sorensen, who was the chief guest at the launching ceremony of the new project ‘Gender Empowerment and Institutional Development Program.'
