Indonesia and Pakistan share strong socio-cultural and religious bonds, rooted in the history.Pakistan and Indonesia stand proudly together as two of the largest Muslim populated countries and emerging economies of creative and talented people.
It is very pleasing to note that both the countries aspire to maintain and further develop their exemplary ties and transform the potential of these ties to bolster cooperation in various venues.
Both the countries highly value their ties and encourage all-around cooperation to further strengthen the fraternal bond between the two nations.
In recent years, Indonesia-Pakistan bilateral relations have seen significant development in mutual beneficial cooperation. The two countries have endeavored to expand their cooperation in the areas of trade & economy, defense cooperation, academic linkages and cultural interaction.
Though Pakistan and Indonesia enjoy a deep friendly relationship,  scope is extraordinary, the room for cooperation is equally exceptional.  Lot more can be done to enhance people to people relations with one another to preserve and promote extensive, close, commercial, cultural, and other mutual beneficial relations.
Tourism is generally about leisure and pleasure, but it also promotes cultural exchange and provide opportunity to people of various cultures to meet and understand each other. It also brings people of the similar taste and profession together, and open up windows of many opportunities to benefit from.
These days, tourism is one of the fastest growing industry in the world. In addition to the opportunities for recreation and cultural exchange, tourism industry has emerged as a big source to generate employment opportunities, grow service sector and help earn foreign exchange. Hence, tourism spur the overall economic growth worldwide.
Indonesia takes pride of its world class tourist destination. It receives millions of foreign tourists from all corners of the world annually. In 2016 alone, Indonesia received roughly 10 million tourists under its branded promotion of “Wonderful Indonesia”.
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world comprising 17,504 islands. Indonesia has a total population of more than 240 million people from more than 450 ethnic groups, and over 700 living languages are spoken in Indonesia.
Culturally, Indonesia fascinates with her rich diversity of ancient temples, music, traditional dances, rituals and ways of life, changing from island to island, from region to region.
To illustrate the diversity of various tourist destinations in Indonesia, this year, Wonderful Indonesia Video, wins Top Grand Prix Award in International Tourism Film Festival held in Bulgaria.
However, it is also true that the outbound tourists in Pakistan lack knowledge about the huge tourism opportunities in Indonesia and consequently, tourist’s number from Pakistan to Indonesia are far below its true potential.
Similarly, Pakistan also offers many great opportunities to the international tourists such as ecotourism and adventure tourism in its northern areas and the archeological and heritage tourism in the world famous cities of Taxila, Lahore and Mohenjo-Daro.
The Embassy is of the view that there exists immense scope of two way tourism between the two countries and through concerted efforts the number of two way outbound tourists could go up manifold.
I am very pleased to mention here that last year the Embassy,in its efforts to create awareness about tourism opportunities in Indonesia, produced a travelogue series in collaboration with a Pakistani Entertainment TV Channel. The travelogue series was a success as it helped in acquainting and attracting the people in Pakistan to the rich and diverse culture of Indonesia and also helped build tourism profile of Indonesia in Pakistan.
This year, the Embassy under its FAMTRIP program,is bringing 10 top tour operators of Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi to Indonesia. The Embassy believes that facilitating and bringing together, the stake holders of the tourism industry of the two countries, will produce positive and desired results in the near future.
In the end, I invite the stake holders of the tourism industry in Pakistan to explore venues of cooperation with their Indonesian counterparts and promote two way tourism between the countries. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad is always there to help and facilitate you.
