Islamabad (Tazeen Akhtar ) 62nd Anniversary of Independence Day of Tunisia and 60 years of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Pakistan were celebrated here on 20th March at Tunisia Residence with a resolve that bilateral cooperation will be enhanced in all sectors especially in trade,  and economic  fields.

Ambassador H.E Adel Elarbi hosted a magnificent reception attended by large number of notables from all walks of life including government officials, businessman community, civil society, diplomats and media persons.

Federal Minister Education & Professional Training, Engineer Baligh ur Rehman was the chief guest. He extended heartily congratulations to Tunisia Government and people on their auspicious day.

Minister,Baligh ur Rehman in his address , replying to the speech of the Ambassador said,” Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Tunisia. Both countries enjoy very strong friendship in history, culture and traditions. We have close relations with our Tunisian brothers. Both nations have uniform stance on important regional and international issues.”

“Pakistan and Tunisia established diplomatic relations in 1957. Since then our cooperation is increasing with the passage of time. Pak-Tunisia Joint Commission has met 9 times so far. Foreign Ministers of both countries are working on promotion of bilateral cooperation in all sectors with special focus on trade, education, culture. Pakistan is also interested in Faculty exchange program. Pakistan hails Tunisia’s achievements in human development and women empowerment.” Minister said.

Earlier, Ambassador Adel Elarbi, in his welcome address, appreciated Pakistan’s support in independence struggle of Tunisia and later in the UN for becoming a member of the world body.

H.E Adel Elarbi said that since the inception of diplomatic relations both countries are promoting cooperation. We enjoy very cordial political relations. Now we are working hard to enhance them in trade and economic sectors.

Regarding establishment of a modern Tunisia, Ambassador said that we concentrated on development of human resources. We invested in education, health, women empowerment and strong society thus setting up a modern society. Tunisia sends a message of peace, brotherhood and friendship to all in the world.

“This year is very important for us as we complete 60 years of diplomatic  relations with Pakistan. We are determined to take already present cordial ties to further higher level in coming days”. Ambassador concluded.

The host and chief guest cut the beautifully decorated cake with flags of both countries. Delicious Tunisian and Pakistani food was served to the taste of the guests that was admired by all participants.
