Top Belgium University would offer Full Fee Waiver to HEC Scholars

Islamabad ( Education Desk ) University of Hasselt, one of the leading university of Belgium, through an agreement with Higher Education Commission (HEC) would offer full fee waiver to Pakistani scholars to for pursuing PhD in the fields of transportation and engineering. It was apprised during a meeting held between His Excellency Ambassador of Belgium Peter and Chairperson HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari at HEC Islamabad. Mr. Wasim Hashmi divisional in charge HRD HEC was also present on the occasion.

Dr. Javaid Laghari said that HEC is encouraging research and ensuring proper utilization of the manpower being trained in fields relevant to the socio-economic development of Pakistan. In this regard, HEC has identified and prioritized energy, water resources, environment, food security transportation and other important socio-economic issues related to Pakistan. He also appreciated the gesture of Belgium University. Dr. Laghari admired the interest of Ambassador of Belgium and extended thanks to University of Hasselt for offering studies to Pakistani scholars without any fee. The Belgium Ambassador lauded the contribution of HEC, recent Pakistan- Belgium initiative and showed full support to HEC and University of Hasselt. He also assured that Embassy and State department would support HEC scholars for issuing study visas. During the meeting, opening a dialogue with other top Belgian universities to provide full tuition waiver to HEC scholars was also discussed.

Through agreement between HEC and University of Hasselt, ten Pakistani scholars have been selected for the fall session of 2013. The agreement is valid for five year and will be extendable with mutual consent. Students will also be sent for PhD studies next academic year in the disciplines having relevance to the needs of Pakistan.
