Lahore - Sri Lankan Food festival and dancing performances were organized by  the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad,   Pakistan  in collaboration with the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotional Bureau  and Mihin Lanka Airline.  The Festival was inaugurated on 04th December 2015, presenting a opportunity to people of Lahore, Pakistan for tasting the authentic SriLankan cuisine and witnessing the traditional dancing.

Hon. Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Minister for Finance,  Excise and Taxation of  Punjab Government graced  the occasion as the chief guest. The Punjab Minister  and  Mrs. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Mr. Nadeem Zia Pirzada, Honorary Counsel  of  Sri Lanka in Lahore,  Mr. Hazif Gardhazi, General Manager of  Pearl Continental Hotel  Lahore, Mr. Manoj Mendis,  Country Manager of Mihin Lanka Airline  and others were  lit the Sri Lankan traditional oil lamp followed by a Press conference before inauguration of the festival. 

The Punjab Minister appreciated the efforts of arranging such a food and cultural festival which would create awareness amongst the people of Pakistan about Sri Lanka’s diverse, colourful and attractive tourist places, cuisine and other tradition.  Addressed the event Minister said that people of Sri Lanka and Pakistan relations always close and cordial in historically and both counties enjoying relations in different fields.

Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka addressed at the opening ceremony said that the basic objective of this event is to create awareness regarding the Sri Lankan food, its rich culture and to provide an entertainment opportunity to the people of Lahore and mentioned that Sri Lanka is a country with natural beauty, rich in culture, heritage and religion which are ideal destination for tourists. Sri Lanka has the capability of catering for all segments in the market. With the tremendous growth in Sri Lanka's tourism industry, has identified Pakistan as a key market to promote tourism.

A Sri Lanka dancing troupe presented performance with traditional drums and live music during the festival including Magul Bera, Pooja Dance Naga Gurulu,Wannam, Telme, Tea Dance, Salupaliya, Kulu Dance, Ves Dance and others. The opening ceremony was attended diplomats, members of Punjab government, government officials, business community, academic community, Sri Lankan community and media.

During week festival, Hotel is offering  an authentic Sri Lankan culinary featuring the choicest of delicacies from Sri Lanka. Ceylon tea  was distributed among the visitors. The hotel has been decorated with Sri Lankan flags and theme.
