Abu Dhabi ( Special Report )Northern Areas of Pakistan known as Gilgit-Baltistan are an attractive destination for international tourists because of its beautiful landscape, unique cultural heritage and rich biological diversity. The region is also known for peace and serenity, giving it a competitive advantage in attracting tourists from around the globe. Keeping in view the innumerable attractions of Gilgit-Baltistan for the tourists, the Embassy has worked out a plan of "Satellite Tourism" whereby the tourism industry of the UAE will be linked with that of the Northern Areas of Pakistan. This was said by Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan while briefing a sizeable number of tour operators who had been invited to the Embassy of Pakistan to attend an introductory briefing session on the concept.

Dilating upon the concept of "Satellite Tourism", Ambassador Khan said that under the envisaged scheme, the tourists would be taken directly from UAE to Gilgit or Skardu by air via Islamabad . To boost up the program, GRATIS visa will be granted to the tourists at the initial stage of the program. They will be extended complementary transportation and guide facility whereas the hotel rents will be subsidized, Ambassador Khan said. It was further told to the tour operators that the cost of round trip with three days 5-starred accommodation had been worked out to be $1000 only. Tourist from any part of the world while booking tour for UAE would have an option to add on a segment of Satellite Tour to Gilgit region in Pakistan.

Northern Areas of Pakistan are one of the most spectacular regions of the World in terms of their geography and scenic beauty. Here world’s three mightiest mountain ranges: the Karakoram, the Hindukush and the Himalayas meet. Five out of the fourteen mountain peaks with height of over 8000 meters including the K-2 (world’s second heights peak) and some of the largest glaciers outside Polar Regions are located here. The whole area is like a paradise for mountaineers, trekkers and anglers.

The tour operators gathered at the occasion appreciated the initiative of Embassy of Pakistan, UAE and expressed hope that with continued support of Embassy it will meet with success.
