New Delhi: Indian authorities were taken a back after the last minute cancellation of Russian defence minister’s visit to New Delhi starting from Thursday.
The India-Russia inter-governmental commission on military-technical cooperation between defence minister AK Antony and his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov was scheduled to take stock of the defence relations.
“The annual meeting of defence ministers of India and Russia, slated for Thursday, has been deferred till October 10 due to ‘inability’ of the visiting minister to reach here. It has been conveyed by the Russian side that the Russian defence minister was required to stay in Russia for his “urgent participation” in a programme of the Russian president,” defence ministry official said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army chief general Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is in Moscow from October 4 for three-day visit.
APP adds from Moscow that Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on the first day of his visit to Moscow visited the tomb of unknown soldier at Kremlin to lay a wreath here on Thursday .The commander in Chief Ground Forces Colonel General Vladimir Chrikin received him, ISPR reported here.
The COAS laid the wreath and after that the Russian band played Pakistani National Anthem.
A smartly turned out contingent presented Guard of Honour.
The COAS also viewed the march past of the smart contingent.
