Pak-Qatar agree on cooperation in energy, trade, infrastructure

DOHA (Qatar), Feb 6 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabar Al Thani agreed to collaborate in diverse areas mainly energy, trade, agriculture and infrastructure development.The two leaders discussed ways to further promote trade and investment ties compatible to their bilateral relations in a meeting held here at the Amiri Diwan - the office of Qatar’s Prime Minister.The two sides discussed diverse issues, including joint development of hydropower sector, identification of sources of financing, exploration of investment opportunities in energy sector, rehabilitation of existing hydropower plants and infrastructure development.


 Pakistan and Qatar on Monday signed agreements to collaborate in multiple areas mainly import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the Gulf state and cooperation between the two governments on security.Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani witnessed the signing ceremony of two Agreements and four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) as the representatives of Pakistan and Qatar’s respective ministries inked the documents, at the Amiri Diwan here. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain and Qatar’s minister for energy Dr Muhammad bin Saleh Al Saada signed the MoU on import of LNG.


Qatar’s prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani termed the visit of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to Qatar “another heartening moment” at the time when the Arab world rejoiced the nomination of Mahmoud Abbas as the head of Palestine’s interim government.In a meeting at the Diwan Amiri, the Qatar’s prime minister said the visit of Prime Minister Gilani would prove beneficial for the strengthening of bilateral ties between Pakistan and Qatar.Gilani said Pakistan is desirous of peaceful and orderly transformation in the Middle East ensuring respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.He mentioned that Pakistan always supported the sovereignty of Palestine at all international fora.
