New York - Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Kyrgyz, Mr. Erlan Abdyldaev here today.

During the meeting both Ministers agreed that there was a lot of scope in expanding commercial and economic relations between the two countries. They discussed measures that needs to be taken to realize this potential, including early holding of a Joint Economic Commission meeting and increasing business to business contacts. CASA 1000 was also discussed.

Both sides also discussed connectivity between the two countries through building infrastructure and establishing trade routes. Mr. Aziz said that building of Gwader-Kashger and Kashger-Bishkek roads would go a long way in promoting bilateral trade.

The Ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in law enforcement and drug trafficking. It was noted that a large number of Pakistani students were studying in Kyrgyz institutions. The Adviser underlined the need for further streamlining the process of admission in order to facilitate Pakistani students. 

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN, Ambassador Masood Khan was also present during the meeting. 

Earlier, Mr. Sartaj Aziz also held a meeting with the President of International Crisis Group,     Mr. Jean-Marie Guehenno.
