Defence minister, Czech envoy discuss defence ties

RAWALPINDI, Report-Feb 8: Ambassador of Czech Republic, Miroslav Krenek, called on Defence Minister, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar on Wednesday to explore new avenues of Defence Cooperation between the two countries.Welcoming the Ambassador, Minister for Defence appreciated support of the Czech Govt during earthquake of 2005.Similarly, satisfaction was conveyed on military support provided to Pakistan’s armed forces in providing various equipment for the Air Force and overhauling of Army Aviation assets, a Defence Ministry statement said.The Minister stressed the need for availing various training facilities in Pakistan by theCzech Military, including joint ventures to promote Defence production.Other issues briefed to the Ambassador, included Pakistan’s role in promoting peace in Afghanistan and regional stability. Need to understand Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and military efforts for success of international community in Afghanistan was elaborated. Continuity of viable democratic process in Pakistan was discussed and country’s resolve to pursue negotiated and lasting peace in Afghanistan was conveyed.The Czech Ambassador appreciated the role of Pakistan in combating terrorism and acknowledged enormous military and economic losses incurred in the process. He regretted unfortunate incident of SALALA and stressed that similar situations need to be avoided in future.Necessity of broad based and pragmatic relations between Pakistan and international community was also stressed. The Ambassador agreed to promotion of defence ties and military cooperation, by proposing exchange of high level visits to defence production facilities of both countries.Prior departure, exchange of souvenirs took place by the two sides.
