CENTENARY OF ARMED FORCES - Pakistan Supports Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh Issue - Chief of Air Staff

Islamabad(Tazeen Akhtar)100th Anniversary of Armed Forces of Azerbaijan (1918-2018) was celebrated here with the determination that the forces and the nation shoulder by shoulder will stand to all challenges and threats to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of Azerbaijan Nation. The forces have faced many challenges in these years and secured many achievements thanks to the support of the nation and professional preparedness. 
Ambassador Ali Alizade and Mr. & Mrs Col Mehman, Defence Attache of Azerbaijan hosted a grand event to commemorate the Centenary of Armed Forces. The Embassy invited the notables from Armed Foreces of Pakistan including Chief of Air Staff , Air Chief Martial Mujahid Anwar Khan, Governor of Punjab Mr. Rafiq Rajwana. Other officials from Pakistan Army, Air Force, Navy , Foreign Office, Business Community, Civil Society and media professionals were also present. 
The history of the modern Azerbaijani army dates back to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic created in the early 20th century. The Armed Forces of the Azerbaijan Republic were created on June 26, 1918 to protect the country from the military aggression of Armenia and Russia. Today, the Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces consist of Air Force and Air Defense Forces, the Navy, and the Land Forces. Currently, the Azerbaijani army is considered the strongest and most modern army in the South Caucasus region.
Currently, the military factories of Azerbaijan produce sniper rifles, sniper machine guns, mine protected armored vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, anti-tank mines, small arms, special reconnaissance patrol vehicles, and many other weapons.Today, the Azerbaijani army’s contribution to international security and stability continues to grow. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces have collaborated with NATO under the Partnership for Peace Program since 1994 and have military cooperation with a number of foreign states.Azerbaijan supports certain peacekeeping operations under the NATO and the UN. Since September 1994, the peacekeeping divisions of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces have served in international peacekeeping efforts forces in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The event took start with the palying of national anthems of both countries. Chief Guest, Air Chief of Pakistan cut the cake with the hosts , Governer, Dean of Diplomatic Corp, Ambassador of Turkmenistan,Ambassadors of Russia,Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Military officials.
Chief of Air Staff Pakistan, Air Chief Martial Mujahid Anwar Khan, in his keynote address, highlighted the close relations between two brotherly nations. He said that Pakistan was among the first countries that recognized Azerbaijan soon after its independence and opened embassy in Baku. Relations with Azerbaijan carry huge value for Pakistan. And similarly Azerbaijan is keen to further enhance bilateral cooperation. 
Air Chief said that Pakistan supports Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh issue and Azerbaijan is with Pakistan on Kashmir problem. 
Mujahid Anwar Khan extended his best wishes for the armed forces and leadership of Azerbaijan on this auspiceous occasion of their hitory. 
Two artists from Azerbaijan performed on the melodious tunes of their country. Col Mehman's daughter also presented a tablau and recieved huge applaud. The enthralled audience appreciated the performance of the artists. 

Welcoming guests of the event H.E Ambassador of Azerbaijan Ali Alizada noted that it is one of the significant days in the history of Azerbaijan as Azerbaijan celebrates centennial of Armed Forces. He said another significance is celebrating of this remarkable occasion in very close and brotherly country for Azerbaijan in Pakistan, whom Azerbaijan share very cordial and warm relations based on trust, respect and confidence. Ambassador stressed that despite Azerbaijan Armed Forces faced a lot of challenges throughout history at the same time by the support of the people of Azerbaijan, by the leadership Supreme Commander in Chief and by the efforts of staff members of armed forces, Azerbaijan Armed Forces reached a lot of achievements and became the strongest army in Caucus and one of the strongest in the region. 


Ambassador Ali Alizada congratulated on this significant occasion people of his country, Supreme Commander in Chief and staff members of of Azerbaijan Armed Forces and thanked Pakistan Armed Forces for the support, cooperation and partnership showed all time. 

Col Mehman threw light on the history of establishment of Armed Forces, their vision of national and regional security and the ideology that was imparted by the founder of the state Hayder Aliyev. He said  present leader Ilham Aliyev is an inspiration for armed forces of Azerbaijan.
