Belgian investors to explore more avenue of cooperation with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, DEC 13 (Commerce Reporter+DNA) Ambassador of Belgium to Pakistan Mr. Peter Claus said on Wednesday Pakistan and Afghanistan were natural allies therefore they will have to learn how to co-exist peacefully.Peter Claus made these remarks during his visit to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday. ICCI arranged an exhibition of Belgian companies and industries catalogs to help Pakistani business community know about the prospects of trade and investment.

Mr Zafar Bakhtawari President of ICCI and Munawwar Mughal former president of FPCCI were also present at the occasion.

The ambassador further said, Belgian troops were also stationed in Afghanistan, mainly in the non-combat areas adding international community was keen to have peace in Afghanistan.

The ambassador further said, Pakistan was a key country in the region and can play central role in conflict management. “One way of improving relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan is to promote trade and economic activity between the two countries”, he added.

While talking about Belgium, Pakistan bilateral trade the ambassador said, current trade volume between the two countries was $ 800 million which was quite satisfactory. He said both sides were making efforts to jack this figure further up, for which a number of steps have already been taken.

The ambassador made it clear, his government was ready to extend more and more business incentives to Pakistani businessmen and likewise he was already in touch with Belgian investors to explore more avenue of cooperation with Pakistan.
