‘Investment opportunities linking Pakistan and South East Asia’-Networking Seminar in Singapore

Singapore: Oco 23- Addressing a group of Company Representatives and CEOs at a Networking Seminar on ‘Investment opportunities linking Pakistan and South East Asia’, at his Residence, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Singapore, Syed Hasan Javed stated on Tuesday, 23 October 2012 that his country welcomed the growing interest of Japanese, Chinese and ASEAN companies for re-locating their manufacturing facilities to Pakistan. “I understand, this is partly due their strategy for enhancing market competitiveness and partly a cost cutting exercise”, Mr. Javed observed. Pakistan has recorded five percent plus average GDP growth rate for the past six decades. Pakistan has never witnessed recession and is the best placed and blessed nation in terms of resource endowments, for the future in a fast transforming extra ordinary world.

Mr. Javed added that Pakistan is the destination of last resort for the Multinationals, being the only major untapped market. Pakistan has proved to be a ‘safe haven’ for MNCs long term profit sustainability. In US dollar terms, annual rate of return last year, was at forty percent. Pakistan has a rich agriculture, minerals and demographic resource endowments with unbeatable advantages. Combined with rich cultural heritage, resilient population, English language, a developed legal system, young talented labor force and overseas population of ten million, Pakistan is the most promising Emerging market. Pakistan has recently enacted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act, under which the foreign investors have been offered lucrative incentives packages. Under the new law all capital goods, machinery and equipment will be exempted from customs duties. The investors in SEZs will also be exempted from income tax for 10 years. Pakistan also allows 100 percent repatriation of equity, profit and dividend.

The Networking session was organized by DFDL (Dirksen, Flipse, Doran& Le) Singapore in cooperation with the High Commission of Pakistan. DFDL provides legal and marketing consultancy services to Investors in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Singapore. Mr. Rasheed Idris and Mr. Adnan Khan of DFDL spoke on legal and regulatory frame work in Pakistan. They encourage Singaporean investors to visit Pakistan and develop linkages of their business between South East Asia and Pakistan.
